Superabsorbent Polymer
Superabsorbent polymer as waterblocking
Superabsorbent Polymer (SAP) is a waterblocking powder that helps keep cables dry during operation and in the event of water infiltration. When the powder comes into contact with water, it rapidly absorbs the moisture and forms a stable gel barrier within the cable construction.
This waterblocking effect helps prevent water from travelling through the cable. As a result, Superabsorbent Polymer can help reduce the risk of cable damage and the costs associated with repair or replacement.
HEC-Holland supplies high-quality SAP specifically developed for the requirements of the cable industry. Our white waterblocking powder combines high absorption capacity with excellent swelling properties and strong gel stability.
Waterblocking performance
Our Superabsorbent Polymer is based on sodium polyacrylate and has been developed with cable production in mind. A carefully controlled particle size distribution supports efficient application and consistent performance.
The material is designed to prevent clumping and provide smooth flow during processing. Low dust levels also contribute to safe and efficient handling in production.
For application of the waterblocking powder, we recommend specialized equipment using either electrostatic or fluidized application techniques. This allows the SAP to be distributed effectively within the cable construction.
The combination of fast absorption, swelling and gel stability makes Superabsorbent Polymer a reliable solution when effective waterblocking is required.
